Do You Need a Permit to Take Water?  Permit Requirements Can Impact Many Site Activities

 

Before you dewater an excavation, withdraw or pump water for irrigation, begin a groundwater pump-and-treat, or withdraw water for drinking or process water, you need to consider the Ontario Ministry of Environment's (MOE) Permit to Take Water (PTTW). Ontario Regulation 387/04, PTTW may apply to your water taking if the proposed water withdrawal exceeds 50,000 litres/day.  Remember, it does not matter if it is surface or groundwater - if you are exceeding 50,000 litres/day, you may need a permit.
