"Gas Bar Renovations 101: How to Plan for a Successful Decommissioning or Redevelopment" - Octane Magazine

Wear and tear on equipment and growing competition means operators must invest in replacing or removing gas bar infrastructure.  Getting started will require understanding what’s involved and strategizing a decommissioning or redevelopment plan.  Decommissioning requires the removal of the entire fuelling system, USTs, piping and fuel dispensers. In some cases, it may
also include removing and replacing the canopy and kiosk, or store building.
Hiring an experienced environmental consultant, as well as a qualified contractor, is recommended as they are knowledgeable on soil and groundwater conditions below ground level. The time, effort and cost of addressing subsurface problems is challenging, and based on our experience, no two sites are alike.
