Environmental Forensics, when done properly, is invaluable in legal disputes, mediation, or negotiations regarding the “why, who, and when” of soil and groundwater contamination.

Our October 16th webinar, Environmental Forensics: Getting It Right the First Time, was an introduction to the forensics process. Dragun’s senior groundwater specialist, Dr. Michael Sklash, P. Eng., spent about 35 minutes describing our approach to Environmental Forensics and how to build a robust conceptual site model using some of the forensic tools (groundwater hydraulics, chemistry, modeling, etc.).

If you missed our webinar, you can still see a video of the four case studies from this presentation (see below).

  • In case study one, Mike briefly shares how a robust conceptual site model helped save a company millions of dollars because remediation was not needed yet; since the company was not responsible for off-site impacts, litigation was avoided.
  • In case study two, Mike shares how a clear understanding of groundwater flow and contaminant transport cleared up the extent of responsibility for BTEX contamination.
  • Case study three looks at how other forensics experts failed to integrate all of the site data. Eventually, our client was awarded millions of dollars in this Ontario, Canada court case.
  • Case study four briefly touches on a current project (involving TCE in soil and groundwater) that went to mediation when our client sued the US Government to fund the cleanup.
